Melissa's Story...Post 7

47 years.

She turned 47 years old just 6 days before she met Jesus.

When you are a kid, someone who is 47 is ANCIENT. But, when you are that age yourself, or older, you recognize how young that really is.

Melissa was so beautiful. She always looked much younger than her age. So much so that one time when we were out riding scooters in Germany, an elderly German man asked me in broken English and German if I had 5 children, "Fünf kinder? (five children)" he asked. I laughed out loud and pointed Melissa out as my wife. "Oh, so young" he said said with a smile.

Yes. So young. We had been planning the next 50 years together at our little farm. The two of us, working side by side, transforming this old homestead.

But God had other plans. He measures time differently than we do. He is outside of time. He is everlasting: no beginning and no end. No matter how many days we have on this earth, the bible describes them as but a vapor. The apostle James said it this way (James 14:4):

"...whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."

I think Melissa truly understood this. She longed to be with Jesus. She often used the word "maranatha," which has been said was a greeting used by early followers of Christ meaning, "come Lord" or "come quickly Lord" signifying the desire for the return of Christ.

Melissa ran the race well for she knew time was short. The years race past and she desired to redeem the time by establishing our home here in Enfield, Maine after years of wandering the globe. She was faithful and dutiful towards Jesus because she knew He was the only answer and she lived her life "all in" for Him.

How many more years, months, weeks or days do we have here? In the end they are but a vapor in light of eternity.

God could call me into eternity today. He could call you. Am I ready for that? Are you?

In the gospel of John, chapter 14, verse 6, Jesus said:

"I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

To have the hope of an eternity with God, we need to be "all in" for Jesus Christ. Without that we are just taking our chances and the bible says our chances aren't good. As a matter of fact, ti clearly says that our "righteousnesses are like filthy rags." (Isaiah 64:6):"But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away."

So, the question we have to ask ourselves is this, "What am I going to do with the rest of this vapor of a life?"

I want to be like Melissa....all in.
